What they are

What are VA education benefits?

VA education benefits — most people know them as the GI Bill — help veterans, active-duty service members, and eligible family members pay for career training and education. They're managed by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, and you use them at schools that are approved for VA training.

Because these are benefits you earned through service — not a loan — there is nothing to pay back. For veterans and families in the Tampa Bay area, they're one of the strongest ways to fund GI Bill training Tampa veterans rely on for an in-demand career in IT, cybersecurity, or business administration. Access Computer Training offers VA-approved programs, and our School Certifying Official handles the certification with the VA for you.

Earned through service

A benefit you served for — not a loan. Nothing to pay back when you use it for approved training.

For veterans & families

Veterans, active-duty, Guard/Reserve, and many spouses and dependents may be eligible.

More than tuition

Post-9/11 benefits can add a monthly housing allowance and a yearly books stipend on top of tuition.

30-second check

Can you use VA benefits at ACT?

Answer three quick questions for a rough read. The VA confirms your exact eligibility on your Certificate of Eligibility — we help you sort it out on a free call.

1Which best describes you?
2Have you used your VA education benefits yet?
3What do you want to train for?

This is a quick self-check, not an eligibility decision. Your official eligibility and benefit amounts are determined by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

Know your benefit

Which VA education benefit is yours?

There's more than one VA education benefit behind the GI Bill training Tampa veterans use — and "which one do I have?" is one of the most common questions we hear. Here are the ones we most often help students use at ACT.

Chapter 33

Post-9/11 GI Bill

The most common benefit. For those who served after 9/10/2001, it may cover tuition and fees, plus a monthly housing allowance and books stipend.

Chapter 30

Montgomery GI Bill

A set monthly payment made directly to you to put toward approved training, if you paid into the program during your service.

Chapter 31

Veteran Readiness & Employment

VR&E is for veterans with a service-connected disability and an employment need — it may cover tuition, fees, books, and a monthly allowance.

Chapter 35

Dependents' Assistance (DEA)

For spouses and children of veterans who are permanently and totally disabled, or who died from a service-connected cause.

Fry Scholarship

Fry Scholarship

For the children and surviving spouses of service members who died in the line of duty after 9/10/2001.

Transfer

Transferred benefits

Many service members can transfer unused Post-9/11 benefits to a spouse or child — and those benefits can be used at ACT, too.

Not sure which benefit you have — or which to use? Your eligibility and amounts are set by the VA on your Certificate of Eligibility, not by ACT. Sorting out the right benefit is exactly what the free strategy call is for — bring your questions and we'll map it out.

What they cover

What your GI Bill can pay for.

Depending on your benefit, the GI Bill training Tampa veterans pursue can cover far more than tuition — so the cost of training isn't what holds you back.

Tuition & required feesFor approved programs, up to the limits of your specific benefit.
Books & supplies stipendPost-9/11 benefits include a yearly stipend toward your books and supplies.
Monthly housing allowancePost-9/11 students may receive a housing allowance (rate depends on your benefit and in-person vs. online training).
Certification & license exam feesThe VA can reimburse approved cert and licensing exam fees — like the CompTIA exams ACT prepares you for.

Can I use my GI Bill for training in Tampa at ACT?
Yes. Access Computer Training offers programs approved for VA education benefits, and our School Certifying Official certifies your enrollment with the VA. Depending on your benefit, the GI Bill may cover tuition and fees — and Post-9/11 benefits can add a monthly housing allowance and a books stipend. Your exact eligibility and amounts are set by the VA on your Certificate of Eligibility. We help you use what you've earned on a free 15-minute call.
Which VA education benefits can I use at ACT?
We work with several programs, including the Post-9/11 GI Bill (Chapter 33), the Montgomery GI Bill (Chapter 30), Veteran Readiness & Employment (Chapter 31), Dependents' Educational Assistance (Chapter 35), the Fry Scholarship, and transferred Post-9/11 benefits. Not sure which one you have? That's one of the most common things we help you figure out.
Do my spouse or dependents qualify?
Often, yes. Many service members can transfer unused Post-9/11 benefits to a spouse or child. Spouses and children of veterans who are permanently and totally disabled, or who died from a service-connected cause, may qualify through DEA (Chapter 35) or the Fry Scholarship. Military spouses may also have options like MyCAA. We help your family figure out what they can use.
Does the GI Bill cover certification exams?
The VA can reimburse the fees for approved licensing and certification exams — such as the CompTIA exams ACT prepares you for — in addition to your training. You typically pay the exam fee and submit for reimbursement through the VA. Our team helps you understand the process and which programs qualify.
Will I receive a monthly housing allowance?
Post-9/11 GI Bill students may receive a monthly housing allowance while training. The rate depends on your benefit level and whether you train in person or fully online — online-only training is paid at half the national average. We set honest expectations up front so there are no surprises.
How do I get started, and what is a Certificate of Eligibility?
A Certificate of Eligibility (COE) is the VA's confirmation of your benefit. You apply at VA.gov (VA Form 22-1990) to receive it. Bring it to us, and our School Certifying Official submits your enrollment to the VA. Start with a free 15-minute call and we'll walk you through every step.
What if my benefits are used up or I don't qualify?
You may still have a funded path. Depending on your situation, that could be Veteran Readiness & Employment or Vocational Rehabilitation, WIOA workforce funding, or a flexible self-pay plan. Our admissions team helps you find the option that works — see all funding options.
